What is the Halma Catalyst Programme?

We only take 15 graduates at a time, which means that we can tailor the programme to you. As one of our Catalysts, you will have the chance to work with colleagues from around the world on technology that is helping to grow a safer, cleaner, healthier future for everyone, every day. From air quality to preventable blindness, our global group of life-saving technology companies are solving some of the biggest problems facing the world today. Read about our impact.

  • 15 graduates per cohort
  • Three rotations over two years
  • Tailored personal development plan matched to skills
  • High visibility across the Halma group
  • Three training modules with your peers

What does the programme look like?

The programme consists of three eight-month rotations within the Halma group. There are opportunities to work within every one of our three sectors, experience different functional areas of business from product design and development to operations and live in one of the 21 countries where Halma operates. We offer so much more than the salary and benefits, but those are competitive too.

How we help you grow

We attract exceptional people, but we don’t stop there. We believe in continuous learning and invest heavily in individual development to help everyone across Halma to be their best self. As a Halma Catalyst, you will work with people who strive to make a positive difference in the world.

We offer uniquely high levels of autonomy, entrepreneurialism and responsibility. Our decentralised structure means everyone has the freedom to be autonomous and shine, whilst enjoying support and collaboration within a larger FTSE 100 group. This is challenging and exciting, and it means exceptional performance is recognised and rewarded.

We are looking for the right attitude, and we will help you develop the rest.

Your impact on our world

“SunTech had two Catalyst Graduate Trainees on rotational placements at our North Carolina headquarters this year. They helped us to identify new revenue streams and data-driven business models, working closely with our company board and across departments. They brought fresh ideas on how to get our high-performance blood pressure technology out to new markets and tapped into their global network.”

Rob Sweitzer, President, SunTech Medical

Calling all problem solvers

We are looking for problem solvers and creative thinkers, and we know that they come in all shapes and sizes. There is no ‘off the shelf’ approach to our technology, so why would we do the same for our talent?

Diversity is one of our biggest strengths. The diversity of our people helps us stay agile as the needs of our customers change and business adapts. As a global company, our people come from all backgrounds and cultures, and we bring our unique perspectives to work every day.

Our people share some common traits, they are also intellectually curious, sometimes risk takers, but when push comes to shove, we are all good people united by a common purpose.

The programme includes three placements at different Halma operating companies and business units, each around eight months long. You will be involved in selecting locations for placements and we encourage placements overseas, where pandemic related restrictions allow.

Each placement will include a challenging assignment to ensure you experience responsibility while advancing your learning and experience. As well as a chance to apply your technical knowledge, you will learn general business skills and how to work with other people in small, entrepreneurial organisations. We are keen that you gain commercial as well as technical experience and you will spend time working with our customers.

Additionally, you will attend three residential training modules, where you will be coached on personal brand, teamwork and communication skills. This will also enable you to get to know the other graduates on the programme.

Throughout the programme you will be in contact with a mentor – someone knowledgeable about Halma and sufficiently senior to provide guidance and support.

Part way through the second year of the programme we will review progress and discuss your objectives for your first permanent role.

We are looking for bright, globally mobile, STEM graduates and undergraduates, who can work well with other people and are motivated to succeed. We need people willing to learn how to become managers and ultimately company leaders.

At Halma, we are not looking for people who fit a particular mould, but instead look to draw on each other's different strengths by embracing a diverse workforce.

If you are entrepreneurial, keen to make things happen and to be rewarded for achievement, then you are likely to enjoy our culture. If you want bureaucracy, working on big slow projects within large complicated organisations then we are really not for you.

We are interested in a broad range of technical, engineering and scientific subjects. You can see from our website that our products involve many technologies and applications that are helping to grow a safer cleaner healthier future for everyone, every day.

We are looking for people who are practical and who want to see results. If you want to use your technical knowledge to develop products or improve manufacturing processes, then you are going to fit in well. If you are keen on a career in fundamental scientific research, then we are not for you.

Work experience is not essential but let us know what you have gained from any work you have undertaken or other experiences you have had outside of education.

Halma visits many colleges and universities to meet applicants. If Halma is at your university, please stop by, whether you have already submitted your online application or are still learning about the programme. You are welcome to apply regardless of whether or not you meet Halma representatives at a career fair.

We are offering a competitive salary, benefits and sign-up bonus in every region.

We are a global organisation and require a globally mobile workforce.

Dependent on ongoing pandemic restrictions, you will be encouraged to choose at least one placement overseas. You will also have the option to take up placements with a proportional amount of travel. Travel overseas will also be required to attend four residential training modules.

Throughout the programme, you will have technical and non-technical training opportunities. Each placement will provide you with experience and training in a different functional area of the business. Further, there will be four training modules throughout the programme, with focus on both personal and professional development. You are also encouraged to take part in any other training or development opportunities which may arise.

At the beginning of each rotation, you and your manager will determine your goals for the project. At the end of each rotation, your manager must complete a review with you, following a form set out by Halma.

The Halma Catalyst Programme manager will also speak with you one-on-one at least twice per rotation. These measures, in combination with informal reviews with your managers and mentors through the placements, allow you to track progress and development throughout the course of the programme.

We pride ourselves in promoting individuals based on merit. It is possible to progress quickly within our organisation. Training and development opportunities within Halma continue at each career stage up to senior executive levels. We think you have excellent career prospects here.

We will offer you a job provided you have demonstrated your commitment to us throughout the programme. We will have a range of opportunities within of our companies and business units and we will do our best to match you in terms of responsibilities and location.

First roles could be in innovation, product management, business development or manufacturing. Our aim will be to work with you to find the right position, taking into account your particular career aspirations and opportunities available within our group.

You can find information on our website detailing the location of all our operations. All our companies are interested in offering jobs to Halma Catalyst Graduates on completion of this programme.
