Halma Expands Strategic Partnership with Oxbotica
11 January 2023
Halma, the global group of life-saving technology companies, today announces1 that it has increased investment in the latest funding round for Oxbotica, a global leader in autonomous vehicle software.
Navtech Radar, a Halma company, has an established strategic partnership with Oxbotica pre-dating an initial Halma investment, announced in January 2021. The investment demonstrates continued opportunity for Navtech Radar to grow in niche market autonomous vehicle applications, such as warehouse logistics.
“Oxbotica’s vision for Universal Autonomy™, providing a safe and sustainable operating system for autonomy that is independent of workplace and vehicle type, takes us a step closer to safer roads and a cleaner environment, aligning with our purpose to grow a safer, cleaner, and healthier future for everyone, every day,” said Wendy McMillan, Sector Chief Executive for Safety, Halma. “Future generations will benefit from Oxbotica’s ongoing technology partnership with Halma company Navtech Radar as they jointly develop ways to drive more dependable autonomous performance with radar sensors.”
The investment in Oxbotica stays within Halma Ventures2, Halma’s Corporate Venturing arm that aims to create partnerships, including minority investments, in start-ups that offer Halma’s companies access to new technology and capabilities.
“The success of Oxbotica’s latest funding round is excellent news. Not only for Oxbotica, but also for the autonomous vehicle industry and for all customers of this world-beating technology,” said Phil Avery, Founder and Managing Director, Navtech Radar.
The Navtech Radar / Oxbotica partnership: Unlocking the full potential of autonomous vehicles
Challenge: Self-driving vehicles must sense their environment and move beyond what a human can see. Some self-driving vehicles use GPS, cameras, LiDAR, or other sensors to navigate. However, these other technologies do not always work in adverse conditions, including fog, snow, dusty environments, or where GPS is unavailable.
Solution: Navtech Radar and Oxbotica joined forces to develop a solution that complements other sensors. It harnesses the power of advanced radar and innovative software to provide reliable operation in all weather and environmental conditions. This enables consistent autonomous vehicle operations in the most demanding applications.
Outcome: The companies are offering the Terran360 radar-based localisation solution, combining Navtech’s all-weather radar technology and Oxbotica’s unique software, for a range of industrial environments such as port operations and logistics where consistent operation is an absolute requirement.
