Machinery Safety Standards & Training Manager – ANSI B11 / ISO 13849

Compensation Range: $140,000 – $180,000

Travel: Customer sites, standards committee meetings, Fortress US and UK locations

Machinery safety is your specialism. Teaching it is your superpower.

Read this first, because it will save us both time: this is not an EHS, OSHA compliance or site-safety role. We are not looking for a safety officer, an EHS manager, or a workplace-safety generalist.

We are looking for a machinery safety specialist — someone who works in functional safety and machine safeguarding, who can talk fluently about ANSI B11, ISO 13849-1 Performance Levels, IEC 62061 SILs and ISO 12100 risk assessment, and who gets a genuine kick out of helping other engineers understand it.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design and deliver first-class training on ANSI B11 and related machinery safety standards — webinars, on-site workshops and technical sessions — for customers, channel partners and Fortress colleagues
• Support customers through machine risk assessment, safeguarding selection and safety concept design, on the plant floor and remotely
• Represent Fortress on national and international standards committees, feeding developments back into our product and commercial strategy
• Build our Fortress training academy, from curriculum and competency framework through to measuring real-world impact
• Partner with Product Management and Marketing to turn dense standards content into material engineers actually want to read
• Shape New Product Development and New Product Introduction, so US standards compliance is engineered in from concept rather than bolted on at launch
• Grow Fortress's reputation through tradeshows, industry bodies and thought leadership across the US machinery safety community

Some weeks that's a customer's plant floor. Some weeks a standards meeting. Some weeks a webinar to 200 controls engineers. All of it adds up to the same thing: fewer people getting hurt at work.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

• Deep, applied knowledge of machinery safety standards — ANSI B11 series and/or ISO 13849-1, IEC 62061, ISO 12100, NFPA 79, ANSI/RIA R15.06 — gained in industrial automation, machine building, OEM/integrator or machinery safety consultancy environments
• A track record of technical training, teaching or coaching engineering audiences, and a talent for making the complex simple
• Hands-on credibility with safety PLCs, interlocks, light curtains, guard locking and control reliable circuits — enough to earn an engineer's trust in the first ten minutes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, turning complex regulatory requirements into practical guidance
• A continuous improvement mindset and the ability to lead and influence without formal authority
• Willingness to travel to customer sites and our US and UK locations
• CMSE® (Certified Machinery Safety Expert), TÜV Functional Safety Engineer or equivalent is very welcome — applied expertise matters more to us than the certificate
• University degree or equivalent experience gained on the job

Location

Home based, United States. with travel to Fortress Interlocks Americas office – Erlanger, Kentucky, and some international travel
