Organic growth funds our acquisitions. Acquisitions add value to our portfolio of businesses through new intellectual assets, new management talent and a wider technological and geographic footprint.
Our acquisition strategy is to buy businesses and intellectual assets that:
- extend existing activities
- fit with our entrepreneurial culture
- deliver strong financial performance
Our acquisitions are highly targeted. We usually acquire companies operating in markets we are familiar with, or they may be in closely allied sectors which we understand. We acquire both stand-alone businesses and 'bolt-ons'. We have financial resources to invest in acquisitions to accelerate growth.
After acquisition, companies usually operate independently under their local management within our decentralized management structure. They immediately benefit from access to the resources of a larger multinational parent. Entrepreneurs often remain and manage their business after acquisition.
Acquisition activity is carried out by Halma’s Sector Chief Executives (SCE). They are each responsible for one or more of our sub-sector markets. After acquisition, the SCE usually becomes Chairman of the acquired business and their incentives are aligned with local management to reward growth.
